Good article in Barrons this week on the auto sector.
My money continues to be with GM which Barra is changing significantly. I believe her changes will stick unlike what has happened at Ford.
While Alan Mulally made fantastic changes to a moribund Ford company, I believe the company has not evolved from a male dominated company to a more balanced senior leadership. This will effect their future earnings once the economy turns and trucks sales sink.
Tesla has done a great job leading the pace of change as the leader for others to follow. I do think their long-term financial viability is questionable, but for now, they are "setting the pace".
VW will be bogged down for years to come with legal challenges resulting from the emissions scandle. Toyota is a great and successful company, but appears fairly priced.
Only the future will tell, but at this point, we can only assess what has happened in the past.
