I think it is clear that it is going to take a lot more time to turn this ship around.
With the number of employees they are cutting, the work environment at GE will be frosty such that "everyone remaining will be running for cover" to cover their own skins. That kind of environment is not conducive to moving forward quickly.
If the situation was similar to a cold, a dose of over-the-counter medication and a good night sleep would go a long way to a quick turnaround. Unfortunately, this is more like a long term acute illness. Much like cancer, the resolutions will not be quick and the recover time will be long.
