While we all feel that we know ourselves like “the back of our hand”, we are all subject to unknown behavioral influences. Sometimes, we act in an automated fashion that seems natural, but, at the same time, we are unaware of why we do what we do. It is behavioral sciences that sheds light on those actions.
Actions may be good or bad. Controlling bad reactions and accentuating good reactions is a way to achieve better outcomes in many of life’s activities, including our investments. Being aware of these subtle influences takes us a long way to achieving better outcomes.
The attached podcast, Hidden Brain, hosted by Shankar Vedantam brings to light the affects the web has on our behaviors. Hidden Brain is a regular program I always find to be interesting and enlightening. An added benefit is that it makes us aware of the historical significance of behavioral influences. Shankar’s videos are what I call “Brain Candy”. Enjoy!
