Want excitement? Forget the equity markets.

People often participate in the equity markets when they are looking for excitement.  It's great excitement when the market moves up significantly, but there are a whole host of other feelings when the markets moves an equal amount in the opposite direction.  (F_ck!)

The excitement often encourages market participants to buy when the market booms up.  Those purchases are usually at exactly the wrong time.  On the downside, participants are enticed to sell.  The problem is that people often let their emotions get the best of them.  Excitement is best left for hobbies, sports and other activities.

Easier said than done, it’s best to bring your inner Dr. Spock to investing.  For those unfamiliar, Dr Spock in Star Trek never let his emotions control his responses.

Be smart, be well-read, be prepared and be successful.
