As I have been saying for over a year, Mary Barra is doing all the right things. She has the skills, knowledge and "drive" to bring GM back into the lime-light.
This investment by Softbank is a strategic move. Not only does she mitigate GM's risk, she acquired a partner that is providing significant financial resources.
The future is autonomous cars, but there will be many casualties along the road. In the early 1900's, there were many car makers. Very few survived the test of time. It will be the same with autonomous cars too.
What will be the major factors between success and failure? First, financial resources must be high. Second, they must have the operational strengths to withstand the inevitable "bumps in the road". Third, they have to have the right engineers with "high bandwidth".
Check box 1, 2 and 3 for GM.
Barra is using her wide set of skills to drive the long term success of GM. Autonomous cars are definitely a key ingredient in the mix and Barra is cooking!
As I always say, "There is something about Mary!"
