Everyone wants to hit the lottery and be set for life, but it's unlikely to occur. It’s similar to fantasizing about being a billionaire. How many people do you personally know that won the lottery or became a billionaire?
Lots of people pick their stocks using the lottery concept. In the end, the vast majority end up with less money than they started with.
Success in stocks usually begins with owning quality companies with great management and solid fundamentals. Next, they are held over the long-term. By long-term, I am referring to a time frame of years. This is the difference between speculation and investment.
For example, if Nvidia was purchased in 2009 or 2010, it would have cost less than $20/shr. Today, it is trading over $300/shr. Considering that it had a 4 for 1 split, the split adjusted price is equivalent to $1200/shr. The company’s founder, Jen-Hsun Huang, still runs the company and their fundamentals are excellent.
So be an investor. You'll likely fair a whole lot better and save your fantasies for other aspects of your life.
Be smart, be well-read, be aware and be successful.
