How is Amazon going to get packages to their customer's even quicker?
I have been thinking about this lately and am looking for input on how Amazon is going to do so. Any ideas would be welcome.
As I see it, in order to accelerate their delivery speed, Amazon is going to have to build storage facilities all over the country that are stocked with every potential item to be ordered. Also, there will have to be sufficient stock of each item so that it will be available to deliver quickly when ordered.
I would think the quicker they would try to accelerate deliveries that the greater the number of storage facilities they will need to institute. The more they want to decrease their delivery times, the more "fully stocked" storage facilities they will need to have. So, I think the number of storage facilities would be closely and inversely correlated with delivery times.
That being said, wouldn't this result in a logistical distribution network that will be similar to the retail environment without capabilities for the customers to come in to their locations? I would think this would end up costing similar to the current retail environment.
Thoughts?
