According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is looking to boost production outside of China. I would have thought "the wheels on this" would have been turning log ago.
Maybe it has been happening, but ever so quietly so not to raise the Chinese government's attention. I suspect Tim Cook has been "getting his ducks in a row" for some time. In strategy, timing is essential.
The days of cheap Chinese labor are long gone. There have been too many other "strings" that have been imposed explicitly and implicitly by the Chinese government. Any CEO worth their weight should have been looking for an exit strategy out of China long ago. There will be costs and they will be high, but they will be well worth it.
The recent events with Russia, another temporary capitalist convert, have viscerally educated the world about the type of tactics that could occur.
