I always pay attention to the seasoned investors in difficult markets.  By seasoned, I am referring to those over 80 years old.  Why?  They have a lot of reps in up and down markets.  While markets don't always move the same in each up and down cycle, experience counts.  Keep this thought firmly

Not all stocks fall at the same rate. The average is just that, the average.

Comparing a portfolio's average loss to the S&P's average loss provides performance information, but remember that it is only showing the comparison to the portfolio average.

Individual stocks fall more or less than the average.  This is the definition of average.
